What Is SEO?

SEO is an acronym for “search engine optimization.” In short, SEO is the process of enhancing and refining the visibility of a website through unpaid results generated from internet search engines. Ultimately this results in increased specific and targeted traffic to the website. SEO can be optimized for different types of search such as text, image, video etc.

If a website has been SEO Optimized, then the chances of it ranking at the top of targeted search results is high compared to websites that have not. A SEO optimized website should generate targeted traffic based on the descriptors and keywords that encapsulate the websites purpose. Therefore, potential visitors/customers can find what they are looking for more readily based on the fact that the website will be ranked highly in the search engine results, and also because the keywords that they have searched for match the websites descriptors/purpose.

Due to different algorithms used by different search providers, results from one may not exactly match another. For example, a search in Yahoo or Bing may not provide the same results as a search using Google. The search provider will return results based on what is considered relevant to users, but a well optimized website should rank highly in whichever search engine is used.
